Pre April 2014 Microsoft was selling products and licenses. Now they are selling subscriptions.

Microsoft has just gone from a business model based primarily on selling products, licenses (IP) and devices to one selling ongoing services and subscriptions.

It makes sense because last quarter of 2013 it was sold more IOS devices than all PC´s combined ! [full story]
